WIPE-Uganda to celebrate 6 years anniversary in November, 2022

Here to Impact as the official slogan, Women Initiative in Poverty Eradication (Wipe Uganda) a Non-Government Organization on Women’s Rights has set 25th November, 2022 to commemorate her sixth year of formation.

WIPE was founded by a group of people led- Mutesi Deborah Christine in 2016, with the aim of empowering women in rural areas of Busoga sub region in order to promote social – economic self-reliance through promotion of Saving, Skills training and Sensitization.

According to the Executive Director, Mrs Christine Magezi, the celebrations will be accompanied by a couple of activities. ” on that day, we shall conduct the last Women Parliament under a double themed occasion dubbed: “Lets end domestic violence and campaign against gender based violence together, the campaign against (GBV) will take five days”, Said Christine. We expect all categories of people to take part, She added.

Launching of a of legal framework on gender based violence, Drama, &Singing, Awarding of Certificates are among the anticipated activities to feature on that day, at a venue to be communicated in our next post.

The events done for this year includes among others; (i). The first and second Women’s Parliament in May 19th and July 16th months, respectively. In collaboration with our foreign aid, we engage the local communities and stakeholders to discuss Gender Based Violence, its related effects and how to get rid of it.

(ii). In collaboration with our friends from Spain, we organised a one week eye health camp at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital where about 350 beneficiaries received free eye treatment, i.e Eye Screening, Surgery, and others even got spectacles (free of charge).

(iii). We carried out financial literacy and community discussion, amongst cooperative women in different SACCOs, in areas of Kakira, Budondo and Jinja City.

(iv) We organised games like football and others where a number of people are attracted, through our “MEN ENGAGE” bid to sensitize the masses against Gender Based Violence.

Our people centered activities are currently in Sub-Counties of Budondo, Buwenge, Bussede, Kakira Town Council, Jinja City, and Jinja district at large.The organization has got a vision to have a community where both Men and Women have equal access to improved opportunities in rural areas of Jinja district by 2024.
